How to improve self-confidence and create positive self-esteem

Positive self-esteem is an important way to cultivate success in life. Self-esteem is used to describe how a person feels about himself and how they see themselves when compared to others. Having a good sense of self is one more way to approach situations with a positive attitude.

Positive self-esteem also equips people with positive coping skills that allow them to be more resilient and responsive when they encounter difficulties and disappointments in life. It all starts with the creation of internal values and recognition that everyone has something to offer to the world.

Most people establish positive or negative self-esteem feelings in childhood. But no matter your age, it is never too late to work on increasing self-confidence and enhancing self-esteem.


Step 1

Accept accountability

The first step in creating positive self-esteem and building self-confidence is to recognize that each person must accept accountability for their own actions and feelings. Take responsibility for making decisions and accept accountability for the results. Do not dwell on disappointments or failures, but see them as opportunities for learning and becoming stronger. There are no real failures — just events that bring us closer to success!

Learn from mistakes

Every human being adds value to the world in some way if they choose to do so. Each unique individual has some skills, abilities, or knowledge that can be used for good. Create goals

Once you decide what makes you feel successful, set goals to make it happen. Meeting the expectations you have for yourself is one way to strengthen self-confidence and self-esteem. Goals are an important part of everything in life and they provide guidance and motivation. Set your goals that lead to success and measure yourself against your own personal goals. Always strive to meet goals and set new ones when needed. Never allow yourself to see anything as a failure but simply as a learning experience. If you consistently perform at your best level, you will consistently improve and increase positive self-confidence which cultivates higher self-esteem.

Recognize accomplishments of others

A very important step in the process of building positive self-esteem is to recognize the accomplishments of other people. When you demonstrate appreciation for others and recognize what they do, your own personal self-confidence increases and boosts your self-esteem. Not only will you increase your own sense of well-being and self-confidence by commending others, but you contribute to their ability to continually strengthen their self-esteem too.

Recognizing the value and significance of everyone else is a proven way to enhance your own self-worth and improve self-esteem.

Step 6

Believe you can succeed

People who believe they can succeed are the ones who do succeed. Believe in yourself and your ability to be successful. Focus on positive self-talk and interact with positive people. Focus your mind on success and do not allow «failure» to be a word in your vocabulary. Replace it with «opportunity» and see every set-back as an opportunity to do and learn more. The more you talk positively to yourself, the quicker you will increase self-confidence and lead to more positive feelings of self-esteem.
