How to make donuts out of canned biscuits, a quick and easy recipe

Easy donuts made fast with refrigerator biscuits

Who doesn’t love donuts, especially fresh and hot. If you never thought about making this treat at home because of how difficult they would be, think again. By using canned biscuits, they are easy to make, fast and taste great.


Step 1

Heat up the oil

Using a deep fryer, deep skillet or large sauce pan, heat up about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vegetable oil. It is important for the oil to be hot so the donuts do not get too greasy. If you have a candy thermometer, place it in the oil and when it reaches about 360 degrees it is ready.

If you don’t have the thermometer, heat the oil on medium for about 2 minutes.

Step 2

Get the biscuits ready

While the oil is heating up, open up your can of biscuits and lay on a large plate or cookie sheet.. If you want to cut wholes in the center, use a bottle top or even a thimble if you have one.

Step 3

Cook your donuts

Once the oil is heated and the biscuits are ready it is time to begin cooking them. Gently, without crowding the pan, place the donuts in the oil. After about 20 seconds, you will see the biscuits begin to «puff» up and brown lightly on the other side. At this point, very carefully flip the biscuits over and cook for about 20 seconds more.

Step 4

Remove your donuts

Once the donuts are cooked on both sides, carefully remove them from the pan, using a long fork or thongs, and lay them on a plate covered with a paper towel. This will absorb any extra oil.

Step 5

Flavor your donuts

For a simple way to flavor the donuts, take cinnamon and sugar and place in a paper bag. Once the donuts have cooked, place a few in the bag and shake it up to coat the donuts. This is where the kids can get involved and help. It is easy to do and they have fun.

If you want something a bit more fancy, use prepared chocolate icing and spread over the donut. You can also use prepared vanilla icing and spread over the donut while it is still hot. This will melt the icing and make it a «glazed» donut.

Step 6

Add fun toppings

This is also great for the kids to do and a perfect treat for sleep overs. Take plates of chopped nuts, sprinkles and shredded coconut and allow the kids, or adults, to dip their iced donut into the toppings.

Step 7

Enjoy your donuts

Dig in and enjoy! After these homemade treats, trips to the donut shop will be a thing of the past.

• 1 cup of vegetable oil.
• 1 can of refrigerated biscuits

• The top of a water or soda bottle
• Choice of icing
• Toppings of sprinkles, nuts or whatever you prefer

• Use sprinkles, chopped nuts or shredded coconut for flavor and decorations
