Cleaning the refrigerator and keeping it clean, inside and out

Cleaning the refrigerator and keeping it clean, inside and out

Cleaning the fridge can be an unpleasant job, not only is it normally very time consuming, but it can also be very difficult because you will more than likely be met by some foul odour caused by food that has long since been forgotten about.

But cleaning the fridge does not have to be a long and boring task, it can be done much more easily than most people think.

Firstly you will need to  turn the temperature control to the off position. The next ting you will need to do is remove the drip pan (if your refrigerator has one) to clean it.

Now comes the boring part, make sure you take every single item out of the fridge. If it i something that needs to be kept cool then place it in a bowl full of cold water or into a cooler box. Be sure to throw away any food that is out of date or has gone bad.

Remove all of the drawers, shelves and racks from the fridge and place them into a sink full of warm soapy water. Allow them to soak while you clean the rest of the fridge.

Using a sponge soaked in warm soapy water, wipe the insides of the fridge making sure that you get into all of the crevices and compartments.

A great way to help remove any odours from the refrigerator is to sprinkle a small amount of bicarbonate of soda into your cleaning solution before you wipe the fridge.

Once you have wiped the fridge then you will need to rinse it with a clean damp cloth.

Once you have cleaned the inside of the fridge thin you can tackle the drawers and racks. Gently wipe them with a sponge or a cloth and make sure that there is no food debris inside the drawers and no stains on the racks.

Carefully dry everything before you out it back into the fridge.

Place all of your remaining food items back into the refrigerator, make sure that you put things that will expire first at the front. That way you will use them up quicker.

Gently wipe the outside of the fridge with a warm damp cloth that has been soaked in soapy water. Do not use a scourer on the outside of the fridge or you will scratch it.  Be sure to clean the seals and the top of the door as these places will accumulate a lot of dirt.

In order to keep your fridge clean you need to keep on top of things. When food goes out of date then throw it away. If you spill something then wipe it up straight away. To help minimise odours, keep a small open tub of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge. This will absorb any bad smells, replace it once a fortnight.
