How to make pizza dough

Pizza dough for 6 to 8 medium size pizzas

Most people love pizzas. It is also easy to make. However, some have their own peculiar taste and may want to make pizzas with differing toppings. Some people are vegetarians, some are allergic to sea food, some like it hot and spicy, while others like it bland albeit nutritious.

Whatever the taste and peculiarities, there is a need to at least have pizza dough as the base for making pizza. With pizza dough, any type of pizza can than be created with any topping to suit the differing taste buds. Making pizza is a great way to get friends involved in cooking and eating together, and in the process having loads of fun doing it.


Step 1

Flour and salt

Sieve flour and salt on a work surface and make a well in the middle.

Step 2

Yeast, sugar and olive oil

Mix yeast, sugar and olive oil into lukewarm water and leave for about 5 minutes.

Step 3


Pour yeast, sugar and olive oil mixture into the well and fold the flour in with a fork. Use hands to knead into a ball of dough. Dust small amounts of flour and continue kneading until the dough does not stick to hands.

Step 4

Resting the dough

Place the ball of dough in a large flour-dusted bowl and flour the top of it. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and place in a warm room for about an hour until the dough double in size.

Step 5

Continue kneeding

Continue kneading for about 10 minutes to push the air out with your hands.

Step 6

Ready to use

Use immediately or keep it wrapped in cling film in the fridge until required.

• 1kg plain flour
• 1 level tablespoon fine salt
• 2 x 7g sachets of dried yeast
• 1 tablespoon caster sugar
• 4 tablespoons olive oil
• 650ml lukewarm water
• Big mixing bowl
• Medium bowl for lukewarm water
• Clean work surface
• Damp dish cloth
• Fork
• Both hands

• Fine sea salt
• Extra virgin olive oil
• Golden caster sugar
