How to come up with money for the holidays

Tips for getting holiday cash

The holidays are one of the most stressful times of the year. The main reason for that is not having the money needed to celebrate the holidays. There are gifts to buy, parties to attend and groceries to buy. Worrying about being able to afford to do all these things is common. There are many things that can be done that will help in getting the money for the holidays that is needed.

Instructions

Step 1

The holiday season usually results in an increase in the availability of part time jobs mainly in the retail sector. Local stores and malls are in need of part time temporary employees to help deal with the holiday shopping crowds. These jobs become available in November. Application should be available as early as September in many stores. With economic times tough, there will be more applicants than there are jobs. Filling out applications early and checking back with the store or mall is vital to a successful result. Stress what skills are being brought to the employer and past retail experience is helpful.

Step 2

The Internet offers many opportunities to earn extra money. There are a multitude of websites that pay cash for reviews of everything from iPhone apps to underarm deodorant. There are also websites like Helium which pay for well written content on a variety of topics. Helium also offers the marketplace where publishers look for specific content. There are additional websites where articles can be sold at prices set by the author. The author can determine if the articles are offered as one time use or as exclusive.

Step 3

Every closet is filled with things that are never worn any more. This is the time to get all those items together and taking them to the local consignment. This is best done with last years winter clothes as early as August to maximize the appeal of the items being sold. This requires thinking ahead and getting things in the best possible condition for resale.

Step 4

Craigslist and eBay can be great ways to sell items that are no longer wanted. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. It can be a wedding gift that is still in a box in the attic or a gently read book. Houses are usually filled with items that are easy to dispose of and will not be missed when they are gone. Children’s items are popular as are collectibles.
