How to make reindeer food
Each year children leave milk and cookies out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. By the end of the night Santa has filled his belly and his sack with all of the goodies left for him. What about the his magic reindeers who fly him around the world to deliver toys to good boys and girls? Santa’s reindeers deserve just as many treats as the jolly ole man himself.
While Santa is inside leaving gifts and snacking on the edible Christmas delights, the reindeers could be enjoying their own edible Christmas treats. This recipe is easy for children to make themselves and distribute across the lawn Christmas Eve before they nestle in bed with sugar plums dancing in their heads.
Put oats in a ziplock bag.
The base of the magic reindeer is oats. This can be found in the cereal aisle of most grocery stores. It is the same oats we use to make oatmeal. Santa’s reindeers love to eat oats. Oats are packed with nutrients to give them energy to keep going throughout the night.
Add magic glitter.
Here is where the Christmas magic comes in. Sprinkle glitter into the bag with the oats. It doesn’t matter what color you use. However, Santa’s reindeers really love red and green. As you add the glitter, have the child say, «Let this magic food give them flight to spread Christmas cheer to boys and girls on this night.»
Mix the oats and the magic.
After the oats and magic glitter has been added to the bag, close the bag. Let the child shake the bag to mix well. For added magic the child could say, «I do believe. I do believe» while mixing the oats and magic glitter.
Spread the magic reindeer food on the lawn.
Before the child gets ready for bed, have him or her sprinkle the magic reindeer food on the front lawn or in the backyard. If you live in an apartment, you can leave the magic reindeer food in a bowl by your front door or on your porch or balcony.
